Clown Fish Order
The most well know species of clownfish thanks to the popular film finding nemo is the ocellaris clownfish.
Clown fish order. The scientific name for the clownfish is amphiprion ocellaris. Clownfish or anemonefish are fishes from the subfamily amphiprioninae in the family pomacentridae thirty species are recognized. These fish are members of the class actinopterygii the order perciformes and the family pomacentridae.
The term amphiprioninae is derived from greek with amphi meaning both sides and prion meaning saw. There are 30 recognized species of clownfish all but one of which belong to the genus amphiprion.
