Full Size Snowflake Eel

The wild snowflake eel is a carnivorous nocturnal predator ambushing fish and crustaceans. Up to 28 in length in captivity the snowflake moray requires an aquarium that is larger than 20 gallons 40 50 gallons when full grown with a tight fitting lid as these eels and all eels for that matter are good at escaping and can fit through surprisingly small holes in aquarium lids. Snowflake eels have been found in the wild at sizes past three feet though in captivity they usually reach two feet.

This species reaches a length of 100 centimetres 39 in but its common size is 50 centimetres 20 in.

Full size snowflake eel. Its serpentine shaped body has a light white yellow coloured background color covered with a series of black and yellow mottled markings that can resemble snowflakes stars or flowers giving it a series of physically descriptive common names.
