Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish Tank Mates
In planning out my fowlr that s currently cycling and i think i ve discovered a huge love for dwarf zebra lionfish.
Fuzzy dwarf lionfish tank mates. It seems like most people recommend any fish that it can t eat for a tankmate. Small and manageable as a pet dendrochirus brachypterus has bags of personality for a lionfish although it can still pack a punch and tank mates should be chosen with caution. Larger hermits and snails do well with the type of food that the lionfish will want you need a clean up crew just larger specimens.
Fuzzy dwarf lionfish like their relatives are generally a sedentary species but they do require adequate open space in their aquarium which will greatly benefit their tank mates as well. They require an aquarium of at least 55 gallons and should be provided with a sand substrate and plenty of live rock structure that will offer them. It s clever cunning and cute as dave wolfenden explains.
Dwarf lionfish varieties could probably be kept in 30 gallon 114 liters tanks or larger whereas the common lionfish should be kept in a 55 gallon 208 liters or preferably much larger tank given their potential adult size. Avoid putting them in a community tank with fish small enough to fit in their mouths. The dwarf lionfish technically speaking is reef safe but not invertebrate safe meaning they won t hurt sessile inverts like your sps corals lps corals zoanthids or soft corals unless they cause accidental damage while hunting for dinner but they will hunt down and eat any fishes shrimps or crabs small enough to fit in their mouths and you d be.
A foxface and a trigger also. The fuzzy dwarf lionfish is so called because its scale structure makes it appear indistinct to its prey. I had several 100 gal tank with lions groupers triggers and snappers.
I d like something that s rather active and colorful of course i d prefer hardy and it needs to be happy in my 50 tall. Before i got into nano reefs and reefs in general i was a predator guy.
