Large Barb Fish
When considering most of the other barb types rosy barbs are large in the size.
Large barb fish. Larger barbs are ideal tank mates for other large fish including some central american cichlids and look best when kept in shoals in a large display tank. Giant barbs are usually seen in large pools along the edges of large rivers but seasonally enter smaller canals floodplains and flooded forests. They should only be kept in large tanks of 55 gallons or more with other large species of fish.
It is one of the best schooling fishes and always provides the foundation for my barb aquariums. They are docile but active and you will need a very large tank for a school of adults. Also i should mention i have never liked the cyprinids which get too large for most home aquaria such as the foot long tinfoil barb barbus schwanefieldi or the bala shark balantiocheilus melanopterus.
The fish generally live in pairs. The fish landed as bycatch by a local fishing operation was tagged and released as part of a study of large. When choosing tank mates for tinfoil barbs and bala sharks consider other large peaceful fish.
Like the bala shark it is a schooling fish that should be kept in a group. Due to overfishing and environmental destruction wild populations are constantly decreasing. Tinfoil barbs grow to over a foot.
This barb is also one type of famous and common barb fish that we can see in the barb world. Speaking of endangered species the denison barb is also an endangered barb fish featured on the iucn red list. Young barbs are usually found in smaller tributaries and swamps but can acclimate to living in ponds canals and swamps.
They have gold and yellow mix shine colors in their bodies. A boy poses with a giant barb on the tonle sap river near phnom penh cambodia. Tinfoil barbs are the largest member of the barb family.
The larger barbs sport the same active nature as smaller barb species except that at larger sizes they tend to be a little more boisterous and occasionally troublesome. This peaceful nature extends to shrimp and other invertebrates. My favorite barb is the common tiger barb capoeta tetrazona.
They re a larger type of barb fish that requires bigger tanks 50 gallons and should be kept in schools of at least 6. Cherry barbs are very peaceful and should be put with fish that share that nature. Unfortunately they are often only an inch or two long when sold and many owners have no idea how large they grow.
