Male Kribensis
Sexing what is the difference between male and female kribensis.
Male kribensis. The male body is more torpedo shaped. They are characterized by changing colors and other uniformly colored. The lifespan of a kribensis cichlid is usually no more than 5 years when kept in captivity.
Kribs are usually very good parents. Pelmatochromis kribensis found in the waters of the tropics of west africa. The kribensis is a cichlid and cichlids are known as fish that can take care of themselves and their territory.
Usually male kribs are larger and lack a gold sheen on the dorsal fin but they have more slimline bodies as opposed to the rounder shape on females. However the first time i had a pair of kribensis that spawned i thought they were eating some of their fry. In most cases the body is elongated the eggs are incubated in the mouth or placed in shelters.
Usually both parents will guard their fry very carefully and they seldom eat their young. Takeing one of the males out will improve your chances. This categorizes the kribensis cichlid as a dwarf cichlid.
The females can sometimes be the more aggressive except when the male is guarding the nest. 3 to 4 inches. That makes these dwarf cichlids not very large at all especially when you compare them to some of their larger relatives.
The maximum height of an adult kribensis cichlid is approximately 10 cm or 4 inches where the males are ideally a few centimeters more in length than the females. Unless the tank is huge the males may spend most of their time sparring and arguing over territory and mates and not actually get around to breeding. Your male is still very young.
And he is a bigger fish. The male has more wide and downward head and the main difference is that he is much larger than the female. They are not recommended for community tank setups and will even fight amongst themselves around breeding time.
There are about seven species of this genus in amateur aquariums. The fighting will get worse when they from actual pairs. Although the female is more a stocky build but smaller.
However it s very difficult to see the difference between the male and the female one among juveniles and young fish. Female kribensis are mostly brightly colored on the belly with the intensity increasing on spawning fish. Except that female is smaller it has much rounder abdomen with bright raspberry red spot on it.
