Good tankmates include other similarly sized rainbowfish characins danios barbs dwarf cichlids freshwater gobies and catfish such as corydoras. Try to maintain a sex ratio of at least 1 1 as the males tend to get a bit aggressive from time to time especially when they are trying to court a female.

Both sexes exhibit bright shining blue bodies with colorful fins. The praecox rainbowfish or dwarf neon rainbow is a great community tank species than can be kept with other similarly sized rainbowfish danios barbs characins dwarf cichlids gobies and relatively smaller sized catfish species like corydoras.
It is endemic to the mamberamo river basin in west papua in indonesia and common in the aquarium trade. May also be seen on sale as neon dwarf rainbowfish or praecox rainbowfish. Floating plant species can be used to help diffuse bright lighting.
Dwarf neon rainbowfish are a schooling species and are best kept in groups of 6 or more. An ideal community aquarium candidate.
