Neon Green Tetra
The green neon tetra is an excellent looking peaceful fish that are relatively easy to take care of.
Neon green tetra. It is native to the upper orinoco and negro rivers in south america. Green neon tetra like other neon tetra are known for their bright coloration. Green neon tetras are omnivores and are used to scrounging for small insects crustaceans zooplankton and organic matter.
Ideally these should be maintained alone or at most with small non aggressive fish. They have red and green coloration near their head caudal fin and ventral region. A lot of owners prefer to feed them primarily with flake or freeze dried foods which is fine.
They will do better when kept in a small school of 7 or more and in slightly acidic and soft water conditions. Crushed quality flake foods tubifex worms cyclop eeze baby brine shrimp and similar food items should be fed a couple of times per day. Green neon tetras are not seen in the trade as often as the regular neons or cardinal tetra.
The green neon tetra comes from extremely delicate acidic water at temperatures around 24 to 29 c 75 to 84 f. Their base color is a grayish silver with a long turquoise fluorescent lateral stripe on each side. This means you have some flexibility when establishing a diet.
The green neon tetra paracheirodon simulans looks very similar to the regular neon tetra but only reaches about an inch 2 cm in size. However this fish is not recommended for the community aquarium due to its small size and somewhat specific requirements. Green neon tetra should be fed a varied diet of flake freeze dried and frozen meaty foods that are small enough in size for the green neon tetra to consume.
That is shorter than their more popular counterparts. The lifespan of green neon tetras is around 2 to 3 years.
