Spotted Mandarin Vs. Green Mandarin
Once again similar to the green mandarins i ended up with a surplus.

You can t breed the greens without trying the spotteds. If i were to do it again i would not have the angels with a mandarin as the pod population does get taken down even with a good sized refugium. No one touches the mandarin though just a competition for broadcast food and pods.
The spotted mandarin is light gray green with black pink and blue spots. And then one day the spotted decided to beat the heck out of the green and the result is the green is gone. A few days ago i counted 128 spotted mandarin juveniles hopping on the bottom of the rearing tank.

After a 14 year hiatus of keeping mandarins i must admit they are slowly creeping up on my list of favorite fish. The exaggerated dorsal is far less obvious than that of the green mandarin. Spotted mandarins are a bit different.
Males and females generally do not exhibit marked size differences and the only way to tell the sexes apart is the elongated first dorsal spine of males although this characteristic is very subtle. In some rare cases the entire dragonet is red with black stripes.
