Synodontis. Synodontis eupterus is omnivorous but most of all it loves insect larvae. The beauty of the synodontis catfish is best revealed in solitary confinement. A much deeper bodied synodontis the synodontis eupterus is also known as the featherfin squeaker because of its beautiful feathered dorsal fin and the fact that it can produce a high pitched squeaking with it.

Synodontis are part of the mochokidae catfish family more commonly known as the naked catfishes since they have a lack of body armour or traditional scales. Synodontis is the most widely distributed mochokidae genus occurring throughout most of the freshwaters of sub saharan africa and the nile river system. According to cuvier synodontis is an ancient name for an undetermined fish from the nile.

With beautiful finnage and a relatively gentle temperament synodontis catfish are omnivorous scavengers that will eat algae pellets flakes and even live food. It is apparently not derived as often reported from syn together and odous tooth presumed etymology of the lizardfish genus synodus and in reference to the closely spaced lower jaw teeth of both genera. These fish grow up to 20 centimeters though 15 to 17 is more common.

Some people regard synodontis as being rabid killers but if kept with larger cichlids they do quite well.
