Adults have a golden to yellow head a black vertical bar behind the tip of the pectoral fin merging with a broad black area on the upper side continuing to the top of the caudal peduncle and upper caudal fin and blue underneath. Yellow head wrasse halichoeres garnoti is also known as neon wrasse. It can be found in the waters of florida united states in the entire caribbean sea and down along the south american coast to south eastern brazil.
Juveniles have different morphology than adults the neon wrasse is hermaphrodites and is born as females and the dominant female will develop into a male if there is not any male in the area.
